Holiday Grease Roundup Runs Through Jan. 10

November 18, 2024

From the City of Irving

This holiday season, don't pour grease down the drain. Round it up and recycle it for free instead.

The holidays, with their fried turkeys, buttery foods and gravy, can be hard on the diet, and even harder on household pipes and sewer systems. When fats, oils and grease are washed down the drain, they stick to the inside of pipes, hardening and building up until they cause clogs and sewer backups.

Drop off used cooking oil in a sealed container at the secured collection bin located at Valley View Municipal Complex, 333 Valley View Lane, from Nov. 18 through Jan. 10, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily. The collected cooking oil and grease will be recycled into biodiesel or biogas, which reduces landfill waste and produces an alternative fuel that is clean and green. Note: This is a used cooking oil and grease collection event only; used motor oil should be brought to a household hazardous waste location
