Community honors RedBird’s legacy

September 12, 2025

Dallas—The Southern Dallas community gathered to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Shops at RedBird (formerly Red Bird Mall) with a three-event celebration presented by Comerica Bank and Russell Glen. More than 1,200 residents from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area attended the festivities, honoring the history and future of RedBird.

The weekend began Saturday, Aug. 23, with the RedBird Run + Fun 5K Walk and Family Fun Day, powered by UT Southwestern. Families and fitness enthusiasts joined the community walk/run, while children enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, and interactive activities in a dedicated fun zone.

That evening, the Reunion Community Block Party took place on the Lawn at RedBird. Attendees enjoyed Urban Trivia Live, live music from Dallas’ RC & The Gritz, food trucks, lawn games, and dancing under the stars.

The celebration concluded Sunday, Aug. 24, with a sold-out Refresh Sunday Gospel Brunch at The Nest inside the Shops at RedBird, sponsored by Charles Schwab Bank. Guests were treated to performances by Grammy Award-winning Myron Butler, the DFW Mass Legacy Choir, and Gaye Arbuckle, alongside cuisine by Breakfast Brothers and Chef Fitzgerald Dodd. The brunch, hosted by Lady Jade, also featured the premiere of the RedBird Rising documentary, which drew an emotional response from the audience.

“The 50th anniversary of RedBird was both a celebration and a reflection of the community’s resilience and pride,” said Terrence Maiden, CEO of Russell Glen Company and chair of the RedBird 50-Year Celebration. “It was moving to honor our shared history while celebrating the transformation of RedBird into a vibrant hub for healthcare, education, retail, and culture.”

“As one of the first institutions to support and invest in the revitalization of the southern sector, we were proud to sponsor RedBird’s significant milestone and amplify the economic progress and momentum it represents,” said Brandon Q. Jones, Comerica senior vice president, director of external affairs.

The Shops at RedBird serves as a model for community-driven redevelopment, representing investment and pride in Southern Dallas for generations to come.
