Irving—A dispute at an Irving muffler shop Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 26, escalated into gunfire, leaving one suspect hospitalized and another behind bars, according to police.

Officers were dispatched around 2:20 p.m. to the 1000 block of East Irving Boulevard following reports of a shooting at the business. Investigators said two men, later identified as Elijah Jacobs, 21, and Cayto Rivers, 21, entered a restricted area of the shop, sparking a confrontation with the business owners.

When asked to leave, the suspects allegedly became aggressive and pulled out firearms. The owners physically intervened to stop them from firing. During the struggle, police said the suspects threatened to shoot.

As one of the victims restrained a suspect, the pair attempted to flee in a vehicle, dragging the victim in the process. At some point during the altercation, a gun was fired, striking Rivers.

The suspects fled but were quickly located by responding officers near Strickland Plaza and West Irving Boulevard. Officers provided medical aid to Rivers before he was taken to a nearby hospital by Irving Fire Department paramedics. He remains hospitalized and will be booked into jail once released by doctors.

Jacobs was arrested at the scene and booked into jail.

Police have not released additional details about potential charges but confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
