Teen advances to national business competition

May 17, 2025

Grand Prairie—Keilani M., a Grand Prairie resident and 8th grade student at Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS), is headed to the Business Professionals of America’s (BPA) National Leadership Conference in Orlando this May. Keilani, who recently placed fifth at the state competition in Dallas, will compete in the Digital Citizenship category, showcasing her knowledge of digital literacy and modern technology practices.

The national competition took place May 7–11, welcoming students from across the U.S. and internationally – including competitors from France, Mexico and Brazil. The event aims to challenge students in up-and-coming career pathways, testing them on topics like online safety, internet terminology and responsible technology use.

“Joining BPA has been one of the most rewarding parts of my time spent at TOPS,” Keilani said. “I’ve learned how to take initiative, push myself and explore my interests more deeply. I can’t wait to take everything I’ve learned to the national stage.”

This marks Keilani’s second year participating in BPA, where she currently serves as the organization's president.

Outside of school, Keilani is a passionate filmmaker who has completed two semesters at a film school in Dallas. She’s also an equestrian and was recently recognized as “Student of the Year.”
